Cohana Iida Mizuhiki Needle Threader
Just look at this beautiful needle threader! The Iida Mizuhiki threader is decorated with a flower-shaped Mizuhiki called ume-musubi, or plum-flower knot. It is considered quite lucky because plum blossoms bloom before the start of spring, overcoming the winter, and the ume-musubi knot symbolizes good luck, tight bonds, and the repelling of evil. The result is a lovely-looking threader that adds a touch of glamour to your handicraft tools.
The Mizuhiki knots are made by Kinoshita Mizuhiki in Ida City. Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese art form made from a special cord which is made from starched rice paper which is then painted or wrapped with silk or plastic to add colour. It is traditionally used as a form of gift wrapping and each type of knot has a special meaning.
