Cohana Sakura Small Brass Spool and Mizuhiki Threader Set
This stunning set is part of Cohana's Sakura 2021 range; it celebrates cherry blossom season. It consists of a small brass spool wound with 6 m of cherry coloured silk and a needle threader decorated with a Mizuhiki knot. The spool can also be used as a paperweight and a pen rest.
The brass spool is based on a traditional design for weaving, pegs with a square wooden frame. It is made of square brass by Takatsuji Seisakusho in Takaoka City. They specialise in Buddhist instruments and use a traditional copperware casting technique which is over 400 years old.
The thread is made by Fukuoka Prefecture Chikugo tassel workshop.
The Mizuhiki knot is made by Kinoshita Mizuhiki in Ida City. Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese art form made from a special cord which is made from starched rice paper which is then painted or wrapped with silk or plastic to add colour. It was originally used as a form of gift wrapping and each type of knot has a special meaning.
The spool measures 33 mm x 33 mm x 35 mm. Comes gift boxed and in a presentation bag.
