This new pattern from Marilla Walker, the Lacewing Top, is an ideal garment for beginners and for all seasons!

The Lacewing is a cape-like garment which can be made as a light open jacket, a button up shirt or a jersey top. It has elbow length butterfly sleeves and a curved hem ending just below the waist. The style is versatile and can be made in a variety of fabric weights depending on the desired outcome. The construction is simple with only one seam at the shoulder and there are lots of suggested seam finishes and sewing techniques included making this perfect for confident beginners.
A side note - The sides are very open so a base layer may be required for more coverage.

View A – A cover up or lightweight jacket. The front edge is finished with a fabric band which remains open at the front. FABRIC – Light to medium weight fabrics. Light weight cottons, denim, silk, linen, viscose. Can also be made up in jersey or sweatshirt type fabrics.

View B – A button up shirt with a faced round neckline and button placket. FABRIC – Light to medium weight cottons, viscose, linen, denim.

View B – Round neck shirt dress with stand collar, front bib, gathered skirt panel, loose fitting shirt sleeves, curved hem, top yoke and gathered back.

View C – A T-shirt (1) or funnel neck sweater (2). FABRIC - C1 - Light to medium weight T-shirt jersey. Ribbed jersey may be required for the neckband if the main fabric doesn’t have enough stretch.
C2 - sweater knit.

FABRIC METERAGE - between 1 and 1.5 metres of 150cm wide fabric for views A, B, C & D.

Bonus pattern extension also included – a longer length, reversible, cape like coat that ends just above the knee. It remains open at the front with deep side slits. FABRIC – Medium weight wool, denim, linen. (uses between 2 and 2.2 metres each of outer and lining fabric.

SIZING - This pattern ends at a 163cm, 64" hip. 

NOTION REQUIREMENTS - Co-ordinating thread (Half a metre of lightweight fusible interfacing and 5 or 6 buttons (12-15mm) are required for view B).
