Cohana Practical Sewing Kit
This fabulous Cohana sewing kit consists of a sturdy canvas pouch, some fine sewing needles, tiny mini snips with a tassel in a leather case and wooden bobbin with thread.
The pouch is made of a durable, light canvas which becomes softer with use. It has a snap button to close it at the top so it can be used as a storage pouch to carry things around. It is produced in Osaka.
The wonderful little package contains renowned Meboso Needles, traditionally made in Kanazawa, Japan. Smooth and sharp, they have been used for centuries. Inspired by the cases where local seamstresses used to store their precious needles, Cohana have commissioned special tiny paper tubes decorated by silver and gold threads to package these wares.
The mini snips are made by Hasegawa Cutlery, a manufacturer of cutting tools established in 1933 and located in Seki, Gifu Prefecture, Japan's foremost cutlery-making town. They work by gripping and pinching lightly to cut your thread or yarn. Despite their small size, these cute mini-scissors have great cutting ability! The small silk tassels are carefully handmade by Imasato, a specialist in tassels and knots founded in 1907 and located in Yame, Fukuoka Prefecture. For over 100 years, Imasato has been making tassels for Yame Chochin paper lanterns, which are a traditional handicraft.
The flower shaped wooden bobbins are carved one by one in a wood working workshop in Nagano. They have a hole at the top so that it can be used as a necklace, scissor keeper etc. The thread is a high quality button thread made in Kyoto. It can be used for various types of needlework.
The canvas pouch measures 80 mm x 80 mm x 100 mm with the top rolled down. If the top is not rolled the height becomes 130 mm.
The set comes packaged in a flat paper envelope with a Cohana label.
