Wendy Ward - Hand Stitched Scrappy Collage Workshop 6 Nov
Saturday 6 November 11am - 5pm
Beyond Measure Shop, Walsden OL14 7QT
8 spaces are available. If sold out, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to go on the mailing list.
Come and spend a chilled day of hand sewing with Wendy and Grace in the new teaching space at the Beyond Measure Shop in Todmorden.
We’ll be making scrappy collages from Wendy’s new book How To Sew Sustainably.
These little collages are relaxing to make and a great way to learn or practise your hand sewing skills. Wendy will show you the basic technique and some examples of what can be achieved with it and then you’re free to work to your own pace and style choosing your own size, colours and fabrics.
Sewing by hand forces you to slow down, it’s a mindful practice enabling you to think in a different way while your hands are busy. It also allows you to appreciate the materials you’re working with: the texture of the cloth, the smoothness of the thread, and to find the most comfortable way to hold your needle.
The focus of this workshop is the process, not the end result. How far you get with your piece will depend on your previous sewing experience – you might create a simple collage that you want to frame in an embroidery hoop or magnetic frame or you might make your collage into a small bag for herbs from the Beyond Measure garden. What we want all of you to get from this workshop is a day of slowing down and enjoying the process and the materials with a group of like-minded others.
This workshop is suitable for all levels of sewing ability including complete beginners and those new to hand sewing.
Fabrics and basic threads will be provided and participants will get a 10% discount in the Beyond Measure shop. There will be samples of our different thread ranges for you to try out and lots of different fabrics to use from our tweed scrap box and huge scrap bag!
Please bring your own scissors, favourite needles, thread and any scraps of fabric you want to use (though we will also have plenty of materials and tools on the day too).
Signed copies of Wendy’s books will also be available.
