My Jan Jacket by Original Digby Patterns

When I was at the The Stitch Festival in London in March, one of my lovely customers, Charlie, showed me a jacket pattern that she'd bought at the show. It was by a new-to-me designer, and I immediately knew that I wanted to grab a copy for myself.

So when I got a few minutes the next morning, I ran upstairs and found the stand - Original Digby patterns by Lauren Digby - and I tried on one of the samples of the Jan Jacket.  I loved the classic style and the little details around the neckline that made it special. It’s like a worker jacket but with a bit of extra ‘swing’ due to the pleats.
So I bought myself a copy. And I also went back and spoke to Lauren about doing some wholesale for the shop, as I love to support other small businesses where possible.

After a bit of a gap between sewing and cutting out (due to work and things), I now have my own green corduroy Jan jacket, which I absolutely love!

It's an unlined jacket with a raglan sleeve, so it's a relatively quick make.  Don't be put off if you're not very confident with collars, because it's very well drafted and easy to put together.

It's quite a roomy pattern, so could easily be worn over sweaters and layers.  I did take about an inch and half off the length of the body and the sleeve because I am quite short (a normal adjustment for me), so mine has come out a bit more cropped looking than the actual pattern. I made a size f in the lowercase range, based on my bust measurement of 36 inches.

The only place I came a little bit unstuck was when I when I came to add the collar and the facing, I realized that I hadn't done my little neck pleats quite accurately enough, and because there's a lot of them, even being a millimeter out, can throw it off a little bit.

So all I did was check the pleats and made a few a tiny bit deeper as per the pattern, until I got it to fit exactly to the collar and facing.

It all came together very well after that. I even added a fancy bias edging to the facings for a bit of fun!

I love the pleats, I love the detail, and the first time I wore it, three different people asked me where I had got my jacket from!

So there you go - it's obviously grabbing people's attention.

I think this would look great in a linen for summer and I'd also like to try a waterproof fabric, making it a bit longer to make a classic Mac shape

We’ve now got the Jan patterns in the shop!  We've also Julie blouse/dress, and the Cleo sundress.  I do hope you like them, and I'm really excited to see what Lauren comes up with in the future!
