Winter Woodland Box
This blog post has been produced to support our Winter Woodland Box but we hope it will provide you with other seasonal inspiration too!
Our Winter 2024 themed box revisits one of our favourite places – the woods!
Containing a selection of themed and seasonal treats, you can transport yourself to the crisp forest, surrounded by falling leaves and sprouting fungi.
Containing a selection of themed and seasonal treats, you can transport yourself to the crisp forest, surrounded by falling leaves and sprouting fungi.
As well as woodland themed treats, we have provided you with some lovely wool felt, thread, buttons, beads and string to create your own woodland style crafts. A hand drawn leaf template featuring leaves I collected on the way to work in November.
We do like to keep our products quite freestyle, but here are some ideas if you wish to use your felt with the leaf templates.
You can use them to create a garland, hanging decorations or use the leaves to decorate gifts or wooden hoop. There is so much potential!
Cutting Out:
You can cut out your leaves shapes from the paper sheet and pin them to the felt or wool fabric before drawing around your shape with a fabric pen or pencil and cutting out. You can stick your template to sturdy card if you need a more permanent template.

Alternatively, use clear tape to attach the leaf to the felt. Place the template on the fabric, cover the shape and surrounding felt in tape and then cut through both layers with sharp scissors before gently removing the template. You can do this many times with the same shape – you will just build up several layers of tape on your template.
Iron-on Freezer paper can also be used if you have some.
Embellish:
We have provided some lovely variegated thread from Zoe at Paint-Box Threads, and some silvery metallic thread from Sajou, France. Have a look at RSNstitchbank.org if you need some help with stitches.

For the simplest embellishment, use a simple running stitch to add veins to your leaves.
Or use some more detailed stitching, such as back stitch, chain stitch or French knots to add more veins and texture.
Use blanket stitch around the edges of your leaves to add definition. This looks especially good if you back your felt leaf with an identical shape of wool fabric or felt in another colour.
Add some beads and silver thread for a frosty touch!
Assemble:
Stick single leaves to a blank card for a lovely greetings card or gift tag. Or make them into a brooch by attaching a pin.
Add a thread loop to single leaves to create hanging decorations or a decoration for a special gift.
Or string several of them onto your Twool wool string to make a lovely garland.
Sew two felt leaves together down the middle and then gently press the leaves in half to create a 3-D decoration. These would look lovely hanging as a mobile!
Glue an assembly of leaves to wooden hoop for a simple wreath.
Our screwless hoops are ideal.
