With a focus on naturally-dyed yarn and threads for handcraft, horticulturalist and dyer Julia Billings (Jules) of Woollenflower hopes to expand the commonly-held view that natural dyes give mostly soft yellows and browns and to create a range of colours that inspire people to see plant dyes differently. After our debut collaboration in 2022, which was a fast sell out, Jules has continued to create new collections for us every year. For late 2024, you can choose from:
Autumn : a warm rich collection of vibrant hues inspired by falling leaves.
Dyed with cochineal (insect derived), goldenrod, indigo, madder, nettle, rhubarb and weld.
Winter : cooler hues inspired by the reflection of Scots pines on a winter lake.
Dyed with alder, bramble, cutch, fern, indigo, madder and weld.
The threads are most suitable for embroidery and hand stitching. They work beautifully on linen, canvas, cotton, felt and wool as well as on knitted wool fabrics. Each selection of 7 balls has been hand-packed in tissue paper and a beautiful circular board storage box which can be re-used for many years.
Thread: Appleton’s Crewel Wool, 2-ply 100% wool sourced and processed in Britain and dyed in Glasgow. Very gentle hand wash only in lukewarm water, natural dry. Do not wring or use direct heat.
Meterage: 36 m/ 5 gm ball x 7 per box . Box size 15cm diam x 7 cm.

You must then return the items as instructed in their original condition and packaging within 14 days of notifying us.
