Dawn Cook Ronningen is a historian and collector of hand sewing and embroidery tools. She is based in the USA and conducts research and shares her tool collection in lectures and classes focusing on historic techniques and designs.
This self published book is a visual feast, exploring a diverse collection of sewing rolls, needle rolls and Huswifs (small hand-made textile sewing kits) from 1780-1900.
Examples include a variety of materials and techniques, from rare 18th century embroidery to unusual one of a kind textile examples.
235 pages filled with history, vivid high-resolution photography and detailed descriptions. In many cases, the detailed photos are larger than the actual antique example.
Please note this is not a pattern book with projects, but a fascinating and detailed study of these historical sewing items.
