The oak bases of these beautiful turned wooden pincushions are made in Yorkshire by wood turner Norm Hodkinson. Each piece is sanded and waxed to a silky smooth finish and decorative lines are added to some designs. A small magnet is also inserted in the base to help you pick up any stray pins.
The cushions are then made here at Beyond Measure using 100% wool tweed with sheep’s wool stuffing. Each pad is individually made by hand to fit the weighty wooden base.
The result is a beautifully tactile, unique and plastic free pincushion that will be treasured for years to come.
Average size is approx 9.5cm diameter and 7.5cm high including cushion, but sizes may vary a little. Please get in touch is you have a specific base/wool combination in mind and we will see what we can do! Pins and needles not included but you can find lovely ones here.

Based in East Yorkshire, Norm is a retired engineer and now uses his eye for precision in his wood turning.
Wherever possible he sources his materials locally from wind/storm damage timber with the occasional quick retrieval of a piece of firewood. Works are finished only with natural oils or waxes to bring out the true natural colours of the timbers whilst making the products very safe to handle. You can find more of Norm's sewing tools in his Etsy shop, NormsWoodCraft.
We sell beautiful and useful things for makers. Our products are sourced with care and consideration for those who make them and we work with smaller companies and individuals whose sourcing and manufacturing process are transparent.
We hope to be an inclusive company and strive to create an environment that is welcoming and embraces diversity, both with our online presence, the makers we represent, our physical pop-ups events and our collaborations.
We welcome suggestions about how we can improve our approach.

I love pretty much anything published by Laine, they have outdone themselves with this issue however.
Immediately on flicking through I bookmarked three 'must knits' and really enjoyed the article on Satu Rämö too ( if you've not read her novels now is a very good time to start).
Really enjoying this card deck, is helping improve my granny square skills. Instructions are clear, easy and fun!
These are the most beautiful Cohana sciossors I now have in my collection! The colour of a camelia blooming in the snow with the white leather case and silver sparkly star is the most beautiful of them all!
I have used a few of these threads for my sashiko and pleased every time with the results . Although fine , even using them single stranded , the colours pop out against the fabric. They feel so smooth when stitching with them . They arrived quickly too.
This thread looks beautiful on the fabric and fills so well. Would love to have more choice of colours.
