Sonya developed the series as part of her slow sewing project 100 Acts of Sewing and has created a cult following for these simple but beautiful patterns. Used as they are, they create easy fitting, comfortable garments, ideal to show off your special fabrics. As your confidence grows, you will be customising and personalising the clothes to create an exciting and unique wardrobe! You can find lots of ideas and tutorials on Sonya’s blog.
Dress No. 1 is a sleeveless dress that is extremely wearable with a flattering A-line silhouette. The neck and armholes are finished with bias tape facing and top-stitched patch pockets add both flair and utility. Make in cool cotton or double gauze for an easy sundress or in a soft wool for a cosy pinafore style dress.
The pattern calls for 2 – 2.5 yards (2 – 2.3 meters) of woven fabric (no jersey or knits). Cotton, linen, wool etc would be idea. An instruction booklet walks you through the steps, from tracing and cutting the pattern pieces, to making and sewing bias tape. The pattern is printed on thick white paper, with eight nested sizes included on the one sheet.
Sizes are based on bust measurement (your actual body size):
XS: 32 inches (81 cm);
S: 35 inches (89 cm);
M: 38 inches (97 cm);
L: 41 inches (104 cm);
XL: 44 inches (112 cm);
2XL: 47 inches (119 cm);
3XL: 50 inches (127 cm);
4XL: 53 inches (135 cm)
