about the maker
Presenting our first collection from Betty Pepper, Reel Lives are the most adorable paper sculptures. Tiny paper houses teeter on their tiny platform of a vintage cotton reel - cosy and sweet but precariously positioned on the edge! A fragile looking thread ladder leads to safety.
Hand-cut and created by Betty in her studio, each combination of reel and vintage papers is totally unique. It is so hard to get across the minutes scale of these pieces - the houses have a footprint of about 1cm!
Average total height including tree is approx 6 to 7cm tall.
Light Seal Brown has a taller tree at about 11cm.

Based in the UK, artist Betty Pepper creates work from pieces of damaged, discarded books. Mistreated books, defaced books, water-damaged books, books with pages missing, books that had something to say but have reached the end of their life in that form, all are welcome. Betty takes them in, listens to their tales of woe and give them a new raison d’etre.
