Bird Can Fox - unique pincushion delights!

Bird Can Fox - unique pincushion delights!

A few weeks ago I got a message from Liz of of Birdcanfox Ceramics.  She asked me if I'd be interested in working together on some pincushions as she had made a few designs  - they brought together her love of sewing and ceramics.  Of course having seen her work, I was really flattered that she had asked me and jumped at the chance!  So here we are with a beautiful little collection for you just in time for Christmas. Liz is based in Bristol and has been sculpting for the last 8 years in her garden studio under the...

The miniature world of Serena Partridge

The miniature world of Serena Partridge

Some of you may know that before Beyond Measure, for a period of about 20 years, I worked in various gallery/exhibition/curator jobs.  It was such an exciting and rewarding time, connecting with so many creative minds and skilled craftspeople.  Through various projects, I came to know the work of Serena Partridge, whose work is based around our connections with garments and textiles, particularly looking at historical fashions and styles.  Her work is mostly executed in miniature, hand stitched using fine textiles, leather and paper.  There is something very tender and endearing about her pieces, reflecting the connection we have with...

Thread Jewellery Ricca - the Yubinuki of Nozomi Shichi

Thread Jewellery Ricca - the Yubinuki of Nozomi Shichi

I am so delighted to bring the work of Nozomi Shichi to my shop this year - her creations bring a delightful burst of beauty and colour to this rather dark winter. Nozomi was previously a designer for the Japanese sewing brand Cohana, so her work is of the highest quality and she has a keen eye for beautiful designs and colour palettes. She graduated from Kanazawa College of Art, which is located in the hometown of the traditional Kaga yubinuki. Whilst working for...

Saima Kaur and The Monsters Who Munch

I first saw Saima Kaur's work about 12 months ago at a Christmas market at the Egg Factory in Hebden Bridge.  It was her use of text (and swear words) combined with playful imagery that really caught my eye!  We decided to arrange an initial meeting to chat about how we could work together and slowly over the last year, we have created her printed panel for you to embroider and embellish, The Monsters Who Munch! This version stitched by Barbara Blackburn I asked Saima to share a few words about her love of embroidery, the design that we decided...

Maito Design Works - natural dyed threads from Japan

Maito Design Works - natural dyed threads from Japan

To wear plant-dyed clothesI think it's the same as wearing nature The spring lockdown earlier this year did give me a chance to do some much needed research into new products and collaborations.  You can probably see that I adore Japanese textile brands - I stocked Tulip needles from the start of my business and was one of the first UK stockists of Cohana goods 3 years ago. So I was so excited to find Maito Designworks on Instagram earlier this year - I was searching for natural dyeing accounts as I hope to develop a dye garden area at...
